A New Dawn For Inter

It has been a while since I wrote anything on this blog. After the Coppa Italia win, I thought I would take a break, but the coach I always backed and wanted at Inter decided to walk away.

Leonardo was a good coach with Inter, he did great in the six months he was with the club and was able to win his first trophy as a coach.

Then all of a sudden, French club Paris Saint Germain turn into a money machine and they end up convincing Leonardo to leave.

Now saying this, Leonardo on many occasions said he does not want to sit behind a desk anymore, but his new job at PSG is exactly that.

The Italian press did report that Leonardo demanded some changes to Moratti that did not go down to well, especially removing Baresi from assistant coach.

Could it be the pressure that Leonardo was facing when he played against his former team was getting to him?

The Italian Super Cup is soon upon us and this probably would of been the last straw for Moratti if Leonardo lost again to his former team Milan.

This move from Leonardo really made me wonder if he was really a good person or a fake. But I will just leave it at that as I do not want to destroy the good reputation he had with Inter and many fans.

It is a shame though as Leonardo could have a long and successful project with Inter as a coach, and if he did want to work behind a desk, Moratti would have had no problem fitting him in as a director.

Inter must now look to the future. It is looking very likely that Gian Piero Gasperini is going to be the next Inter coach if all the reports from Italy are correct.

A long term project has to be started, and the new coach at Inter must be given a chance to work. Young players have to be introduced to keep with the new UEFA regulations.

Signing a coach just for one season would be a disaster. Many are saying that a coach is needed just for one year, so Inter can hire Barcelona coach Guardiola who has just one year left on his contract with the new European champions.

But if Gasperini or whoever is hired has a good season with Inter, he must be kept on.

We must not forget that, when Guardiola started with Barcelona, he had a team full of stars that were already winning. He just continued the momentum.

I am not saying Guardiola is a bad coach, I just would like to see him coach a team without all those stars. That is when we will see what he is capable of. Would he have won the Champions League with Porto as Mourinho did? This is a question we will soon see answered when he leaves Barcelona.

Gasperini looks to be the right man for the job. His football style is praised throughout Italy and what is important as well is that former Inter coach Jose Mourinho has given is thumbs up to the former Genoa coach.

All this fuss about hiring a coach that has won everything has to end. For one it is to expensive and Inter need a coach that has the desire to win.

Moratti was right for not giving in to Porto and paying the €15million for Villas-Boas. This was just to expensive for a coach that just has a few years experience. It is true he won a treble with Porto, but this does not mean he is worth that kind of money.

Moratti has already been praised for not splashing out the money on Villas-Boas. Many are now hoping that they see a Italian coach guiding the side.

Gasperini should not find it hard to fit in with Inter as he already has great experience with players such as Diego Milito and Motta. These two players know it was Gasperini that started them off to become world class players.

In the next few hours we will surely know who the next coach of Inter will be and all this panic will hopefully end so that Inter can focus on the transfer market. Milan, Juventus and Roma have made great advances in this transfer campaign already. But as Inter and all the fans know, buying everybody does not guarantee you titles. Inter just need a few adjustments before the start of the season, and if Gasperini is on board, he will surely know what needs to be done to get Inter back on top.

On a final note, we must not forget at one point, Gasperini’s Genoa were a team that everybody was scared off when Milito and Motta were playing for him. Imagine what he can do with the players he has at his disposal at Inter.
