Roma assistant manager Ivan De La Peña has taken a leave of absence from the club due to some family issues, but he has moved to reassure fans he will be back.

On Thursday the Giallorossi announced he would be taking an unknown period of leave.

“I am feeling much better,” De La Peña told Roma Channel.

“It is a special situation, a family problem that means I have to return to Spain.

“It is not so serious as an illness, but at this moment I have to be in Barcelona with my family.

“I thank director Walter Sabatini and all of Roma, as they understood the situation. I also thank Luis Enrique, who is like a brother to me.

“They are leaving the door open for me, I thank them all and am sure it will be a great season for Roma.”
