Reports that former Lazio, and occasional Palermocoach, Delio Rossi could replace Luis Enrique in charge of the giallorossi appear to be wide of the mark.

Enrique’s pre-season form, which included being knocked out of the Europa League before the group stages, increased the pressure on the newly arrived Spaniard and Delio Rossi was mentioned as a possible successor.

Yesterday, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini, added his two pence worth by claiming that his coach is waiting for the call from the capital club.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini, however, told Sky Sport Italia “There isn’t a lot to add to the President’s comments,”

“Our Coach is Luis Enrique and he’ll continue to be our Coach for a long time. He’s a great resource for us. There is nothing with Rossi.”

That’s that, then.  Unless Roma get off to a poor start in Serie A of course!!

Seriously, any talk of Roma looking at replacing Luis Enrique without a Serie A ball being kicked, and investing a considerable amount of money in the summer transfer market, is clearly nonsense.

It’s a nothing story but good fun as we twiddle our football thumbs before the domestic season kicks off.
