Inter Are Simply Too Old

Watching the match last Sunday, I immediately noticed that it was going to be one of the matches that you don’t celebrate taking the lead for so long.

On paper, Inter should have won the match without any problems at all.

It was immediately evident that Inter coach Gasperini was not happy with the way his players were playing as he was always caught on camera yelling or lifting up his arms in despair.

Now we have to be honest, in the first half, Palermo should have been ahead, with Miccoli tearing up the Inter defence when he was on attack.

Milito’s goal in the first half was very lucky and it showed as at the start of the second half Palermo immediately levelled matters.

As I have written in a number of older posts, Inter have a team of great experience and champions that have won practically everything, but the age factor is still the problem.

The problem with age was most evident, when Palermo was charging on a counter-attack and Inter’s defence and attackers could not run back in time to protect their goal.

Then you see a midfielder like Inter’s Joel Obi run up and down before any of his teammates. Of course this kid can run, he is only 20 years old, he was joy to see. The legs of Zanetti, Forlan, Cambiasso, Lucio, Samuel…. (we can keep on mentioning them all) are not what they used to be.

The vision of former coach Benitez was one of the future, and I think that Inter should of sat back and let him do his work, even if they did not qualify for the Champions League and were humiliated by Milan.

Milan’s day will arrive soon again as their age average is very high as well.

No we cannot cry about Benitez or Mourinho anymore, the challenge is now Gasperini’s.

I am starting to think the 3-4-3 system will not work from the start with Inter, and they will lose a number of games before they get used to it.

Being patient is one of the joys of football when you see a team evolve into something new, but this does not depend on the fans or the players, but it depends on the patience of Inter’s president Moratti.

Gasperini needs time and he should get it. It was only one defeat, and the season is very long.

As Cambiasso said after the match, he admitted Palermo deserved to win, but in saying this, the entire team did not have enough time to train together with all the international commitments.

Maybe on Wednesday, we will see a better Inter with more desire!!!
