Although Roma captain Francesco Totti made his last appearence for Italy in the 2006 World Cup final against France, coach Cesare Prandelli has not excluded the possibility of calling up the 35-year-old for Euro 2012.
Totti himself talked about this in an interview with TG1: “The national team? Never say never, let’s see how I feel in May. I’m very happy he is considering me, I have a very good rapport with Prandelli.
“I’ve heard good things about him as a coach, he transmits a lot of desire, motivation, and he’s obtained great results with the national team. Usually at 35 they say you start declining, but I’m improving. The important thing is to have a healthy life, being a professional.”
On Roma’s strong recent form, he said: “For me, having played my whole career with one shirt is worth more than a Ballon d’Or. Initially I was skeptical about the position Luis Enrique wanted me to play in, but he was right. Roma are young, have fun, and want to win.”
Last weekend Totti became the all-time top Serie A goalscorer among players to have played with the same club with a brace against Cesena, beating Gunnar Nordahl’s record.
