As we continue our new weekly feature, we give you the latest news from every Serie A training ground, as the clubs prepare for the next round of matches.
Atalanta – Coach Stefano Colantuono has today ordered his players to participate in a double training session which included some shooting practice. He has yet to decide on his starting eleven for the game against Roma but ex-Giallorossi midfielder, Matteo Brighi, is expected to face his former teammates despite missing the session with a minor knock.
Bologna – Buoyed by the recent 2-0 win over Fiorentina, today’s training routine included an ‘anti-fatigue’ session for those who played against La Viola. Defender Daniele Portanova, who came off for a foot injury in the Tuesday night match should be available for the weekend fixture against Udinese.
Cagliari – The players worked out in the gym this morning and then moving over onto the training field, working on both offensive and defensive strategies. In the afternoon’s small sided game, strikers Ibarbo and Pinilla were on form, scoring the decisive goals. Tomorrow, the team travel to Asseminese, for their usual Thursday afternoon practice match which is open to the public.
Catania – The Montella miracle continues as the Sicilians basque in another good performance having beaten Siena 1-0, away from home on Wednesday. The goal scorer was Francesco Lodi, from the penalty spot.
Cesena – Mario Beretta has cut his family holiday short to take the reigns from outgoing coach, Daniele Arrigoni. It remains to be seen whether this desperate throw of the dice will be enough to save president Campedelli’s team from relegation.
Chievo –Midfielder Paolo Sammarco is unlikely to be fit in time to face Cesena at the weekend. The former Sampdoria player trained away from the main squad but his muscular problem is not expected to heal in time for the game.
Fiorentina – Uruguyan Ruben Olivera has been handed a three match ban for the red card received in the match against Catania. The tough tackling midfielder pushed his elbow into the face of Bologna’s Diamanti to earn his disqualification for violent conduct.
Genoa – Coach Pasquale Marino has confirmed the back three that will face Parma. Kakha Kaldze, Andreas Granqvist and Carvalho will all protect Sebastian Frey’s goal. Striker Alberto Gilardino will again miss out due to injury.
Inter – Despite Champions League duty, Claudio Ranieri still has one eye on the huge game against Napoli on Sunday night. Early reports suggest that young midielder Poli could start alongside Esteban Cambiasso. Wesley Sneijder is expected to partner Diego Milito in attack.
Juventus – Only Luca Marrone trained away from the main squad as the Bianconeri prepare for the huge match with AC Milan. Antonio Conte split his group into two, as the strikers practiced their shooting and the defence and midfield players were involved in technical ball work.
Lazio – High tension in and around the Biancoceleste squad as the future of Edy Reja remains in doubt at time of going to press. Reports of differences between the coach and the club owner are being cited, as preparations for the home match with Fiorentina are in absolute turmoil.
Lecce – Serse Cosmi is preparing his team for their visit to Cagliari by working on his defence and trying out various players. The rest of the session was spent on a physical workout in the gym.
AC Milan – Doubts remain over Alessandro Nesta’s participation against Juventus though Alexandre Pato is now fully fit and expected to partner Robinho in attack. Zlatan Ibrahimovic again misses out as he continues to serve his suspension.
Napoli – Despite their heroics against Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League tie, the Partenopei are not celebrating. Marek Hamsik urged caution stating on his website that the hard work starts at Stamford Bridge and the team has not achieved anything yet. He also believes that his team will almost certainly need to score an away goal to ensure qualification.
Novara – Though the relegation threathened club only managed a 0-0 draw at home to Atalanta last time out, Emiliano Mondonico still believes his team can remain in Serie A. One doubt the coach has for the weekend is who will partner Andrea Caracciolo up front. Giuseppe Mascara is thought to be favourite over the Brazilian striker Jeda.
Palermo – The bad weather in Sicily has forced Bortolo Mutti to rethink his training as his double session was cut to just one. Due to the rain, the squad only worked on fitness and will leave the tactical drills for later in the week.
Parma – The team took part in a varied athletic work today, followed by an 11 a side game to end the session. Donadoni will tomorrow work behind closed doors as he finalises his tactics for the early Saturday match against Genoa. Striker Raffaele Palladino is still unavailable as he continues his rehabilitation.
Roma – Other than Nicolas Burdisso, all the players should be at Luis Enrique’s disposal for match with Atalanta. Suggestions are that Simon Kjaer will play ahead of Juan. The Brazilian centre back is one yellow card away from a ban, and with the impending Roma derby on the horizon, Kjaer may get the nod to ensure Juan is available for the Lazio game.
Siena – Currently in freefall, Giuseppe Sannino is venting his anger at the fans who are booing his team. He is upset that his team’s efforts are not being recognised despite the bad results. With the Palermo match at the weekend, Emanuele Calaio sees himself watching the game from the stands as he sits out a ban. This should see Mattia Destro partner Erjon Bogdani in attack.
Udinese – The Bianconeri will again be without club captain Antonio Di Natale when they face Bologna away on Sunday. They will also be without Emanuel Badu, Mauricio Isla and Giampiero Pinzi as they try to get their season back on track after having dropped off the leading pace at the sharp end of the table.
