Roma captain has laughed off speculation that he deliberately got himself booked in Sunday’s Serie A encounter with Parma to ensure that he would be free for the against at the start of March.

The 35 year-old Giallorossi legend was yellow carded and that lead to rumours that he did it so that he could serve the one game suspension against Atalanta this weekend rather than the clash with the Biancocelesti on the 4th March.

Totti was asked by reporters as he left the Stadio Olimpico yesterday whether he had deliberately got himself the booking and responded, with more than a trace of sarcasm “I wanted to get it next Sunday, I swear! I’m afraid of [Lazio].”

He was, however,  in less good humour when talking about the Parma match itself and revealed his frustration at the team’s inability to kill the game off.

“The goal came in the first half and we created a lot in attack but we missed a lot of chances in the second half and this made the game difficult,” explained Er Pupone.

“When you’re only 1-0 up, the slightest drop in concentration can scupper all of your hard work.

“But the focus remained high and we didn’t take any excessive risks in possession of the ball.”

Roma’s victory lifted them into fifth place and above Napoli and Inter in the race for the Champions League places.

English supporter living in Nottingham, England. I also follow the fortunes of local side Nottingham Forest and due to the locality spend far more time there than Rome. However, Calcio and Roma inparticular are big passions of mine and I enjoy writing articles about them. Fell in love with Italian football, like so many, in the early nineties thanks to the wonderful Robert Baggio. Still the best player I’ve ever seen. However, Roma are my team after a visit to the city a few years ago. I have my own blog for English speaking/readers called ASRomaUK at http://asromauk.blogspot.com for all of you fellow Giallorossi tifosi.
