Despite a strong start to the year, Roma’s form has dipped alarmingly in recent weeks. Falling to a 3-0 defeat at Juventus in the Coppa Italia, the Giallorossi have been held at home by Bologna, and lost 4-2 at Cagliari. There are still doubts over the fitness of Daniele De Rossi who could return, while Nicolas Burdisso, Marco Cassetti and Osvaldo are all still absent. Luis Enrique’s men trail Sunday’s opponents by five points, knowing that a win here and three points in their game against Catania to be concluded, will see them leapfrog the Nerazzurri into a Europa League spot.
After securing seven consecutive victories across December and early January, Inter have been eliminated from the Coppa Italia while falling to a shock defeat at Lecce before Thursday night’s incredible 4-4 draw with Palermo at San Siro. Claudio Ranieri returns to his old club for the first time since leaving the post, but will travel without Dejan Stankovic, Diego Forlan, Ricky Alvarez and Wesley Sneijder. New signing Angelo Palombo is expected to make his debut. The Nerazzurri have won on their of their last six visits to Roma, and know a win will strengthen their place in the top five.
