It’s the end of another weekend of Serie A, and Forza Italian Football’s Ramez Nathan has put together the stats from the 22nd Week of this season.
After seven head to head games at the Luigi Ferraris stadium without a single win Genoa can finally celebrate a win against the Lazio. The birthday boy Rodrigo Palacio opened the score sheet by scoring a wonder goal after a corner played by Bosko Jankovic.
Rodrigo Palacio scored his seventh goal in five games and raised his tally to tweve goals and four assists this season, a massive 51.6% of his team’s goals. Soon it was a catastrophe for Lazio as Jankovic scored his first ever Serie A brace. On the 54th and 90th minutes Cristian Ledesma and Alvaro Gonzalez both scored their first goals of the season for Lazio but that was not enough as the game ended 3-2 for Genoa. Note that Lazio are now with three losses in their last four away games while Genoa have not kept a single clean sheet in their last eight Serie A games.
For the first time since September 2009 AC Milan fail to score in two consecutive games. For the second consecutive week now Napoli force their opponents to a goalless draw, the team from Naples failing to win in their last five Serie A matches. For fifteen games in a row now AC Milan have only scored when Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaves his mark on the score sheet, how tough will it be for the Rossoneri if their man was banned after his red card against the Partonopei?
Fiorentina got their second win in a row after defeating the recently struggling Udinese, the return of Mehdi Benatia did not solve his team’s problems as expected, the Moroccan defender conceding two penalties. The game started with a goal from Antonio Di Natale who scored his sixteenth goal of the season, bring Toto’s dirct involvement in the Friuli sides goals to a whopping 63.6%. That lead did not last long as Viola answered with three goals – one scored by Mattia Cassani, his first goal for his new club and Stevan Jovetic scored the other two from the penalty spot and is now responsible for 60.8% of La Viola’s goals. Note that Udinese have conceded eleven goals in their last six games, although in the previous sixteen games they only conceded nine.
After five consecutive away losses, Siena were the first team this season to stop the Old Lady from scoring at home. Siena are still without any away wins this season have managed to score only five goals. Beppe Marotta fumed after the game that Juve must receive ”more respect” from officials, a statement that is backed by the stats, as Juventus are the team with the least penalties awarded this season (joined by Chievo).
Parma grabbed their second away win of the season and their first with Roberto Donadoni as coach. At the Marcantonio Bentegodi stadium the Gialloblu were able to get a 2-1 win over Chievo, forcing the Flying Donkeys to face their second consecutive home loss and Sebastian Giovinco was able to raise his tally to nine goals and five assists this season, which is 51.9% of his team’s goals.
Bologna got their fourth consecutive draw after a goalless game against Lecce in the Via del Mare stadium. Lecce have now massively improved under Sersi Cosmi as they only lost one of their last five Serie A games. Note that Bologna are unbeaten in their last five Serie A encounters.
After suffering against Cagliari Roma got their third straight win over Inter in their head to head games in the Olimpico Stadium. Juan opened the score sheet by a header, sooner the young Italian striker Fabio Borini scored a brace and in the dying minutes Bojan scored his first goal for nine games. For the second consecutive game Inter conceded four goals, a thing that has never happened in the history of the club. Note that Diego Milito scored eight goals in 2012 not one of them was away from the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, while Roma’s defender Juan has scored three and assisted one goal in his last four Serie A games.
Novara got their first clean sheet from their encounter against Cagliari. Cagliari are without an away win in their last four games now while this was Novara’s first point after five consecutive Serie A losses as well as remaining winless in their last ten matches.
Palermo got their third home win in a row after beating Atalanta 2-1. Fabrizio Miccoli scored the first through a penalty and in the 49th minute Igor Budan scored a second and raised his tally to four goals and two assists in his team’s last four games. At the end Maximiliano Moralez was the first player to score for Atalanta in the New Year but it was not enough for La Dea to get back into the game. Note that Palermo have scored thirteen goals in their last four games, with Miccoli scoring five and assisting six of them.
