Many fans of a purple hearted nature turned a blind eye when Fiorentina announced their intention to sign Amauri.
The 31 year-old Brazilian striker was out of favour with Juventus tactician Antonio Conte, and was even auctioned on ebay by a disgruntled Juventus fan. Bidding reached the €10m mark before the site removed him, considerably more than he’s worth it must be said.
As a Fiorentina supporter i too was baffled by the idea of Amauri in a Viola jersey. For director of sport Pantaleo Corvino to make a move for a striker who hasn’t kicked a ball in five months lacked ambition. And also the loss in dignity that Fiorentina fans would suffer, being handed a reject player from arch rivals Juventus. Bianconeri supporters would be laughing as far as the Tuscan hills.
Such a ploy would almost be considered as an insult to that of a Purple following. Especially when at the time Fiorentina were linked with more in tune Serie A strikers. Such as Mauricio Pinilla and Antonio Floro Flores.
For a club having a bad season fighting in the second half of Serie A way below expectation. The city of Florence is expecting rapid action to be taken in this transfer window. So it is very easy to react with certain negativity when Amauri is mentioned.
After the departure of Alberto Gilardino to Genoa, Amuari stated he would be proud to play for Fiorentina and wear the number eleven shirt to replace Gilardino. Again not the sort of words me as a supporter wanted to hear.
The big Brazilians’s efforts in a loan spell at Parma last January didn’t go entirely unnoticed. Amauri scored 7 goals in 11 appearances for the Tardini outfit. So with quiet enthusiasm we had at least one positive, should it be the same Amauri that arrives in Florence.
And so the best unkept secret in the world was revealed. Fiorentina snapped up Amauri for €500,000 in a deal that would leave him a free agent this summer. Amauri insisted on a short term deal as so to prove his worth.
So Delio Rossi immediately selected him to partner alongside Stevan Jovetic in the Viola attack against Siena. The sun shone over Florence that morning, with Fiorentina needing a performance to silence the critics. Amauri didn’t disappoint. The new Fiorentina number eleven man kept the Siena defence honest throughout, with his positioning and sharpness on and off the ball.
He was unlucky not be credited with the second goal, which clear to replay was headed in by Cesare Natali. The two players shared a moment of confusion rounded off by laughter as to who actually scored the goal. The fairytale goal didn’t come for Amauri as he was denied several times by Siena keeper Gianluca Pegolo.
But he got a suitable applause from the Curva Fiesole when substituted in the 87th minute. It’s only one game but already Amauri’s arrival has opened up a variety of attacking options for Fiorentina. And his partnership with Jovetic has the potential to be a successful one. All in all though a positive debut run for Amauri. May this trend continue for the rest of the season.

A very good signing! He is much more versatile, then Gila and will inspire a lot more confidence in a manically depressed viola side
Also, with a proper prima punta, Jovetic can finally flourish into the superstar we all know he can be.
Best of luck from a Milan fan

Yeah Amauri offers more going forward, at least at the weekend. If he continues on this road then i hope he commits to a more long term future in Florence. If he leaves in the summer, we’ll be back to square one again.
Thanks, we need some luck.
