A disciplined and clinical Atalanta side came away from San Paolo with a deserved three points as Napoli slumped to their third consecutive defeat to fall further behind in the race for 3rd place.

The Lombard outfit took a ten minute lead as Simone Bonaventura’s rasping half volley curled past Morgan De Sanctis who was furious with his side’s defending.

Napoli did nab an immediate equaliser through Ezequiel Lavezzi who latched on to Goran Pandev‘s pass and fired past Andrea Consigli at the second attempt.

De Sanctis was again left furious with his side’s defensive concentration as Giampaolo Bellini was left unmarked in the area to coolly slam home Ezequiel Schelotto’s pass.

Atalanta all but made sure of their win midway through the half as Carlos Carmona struck from distance before Pandev was dismissed for hacking down Maxi Moralez to compound his side’s woes.
