Serie A set to allow twelve subs on the bench
The FIGC has recently approved of a plan that would allow Serie A clubs to have twelve players on their bench at game time, rather than the usual seven.
League president Maurizio Berettta is set to put the new rule into play starting the first week of the season. The ruling would extend to Italian Cup and Primavera matches as well.
“For me not much changes, it doesn’t make a difference. In my experience eighteen players would be sufficient,” AS Roma manager Zdenek Zeman said regarding to new rule.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is satisfied with the decision, stating that it’s something he always fought for.
“This decision on elongating the bench is something I always struggled for, thank goodness it has finally arrived,” Zamparini said.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis also approved of the decision, telling news agency ANSA, “I congratulate the national and international organs that have introduced this rule that makes absolute sense.
“I had launched the proposal a long time ago because it seemed important to me to give the manager the best choice for changes during the match, but also because it wasn’t right to send called-up players to the stands, and that among other things, see their value drop.”
