New Roma goalkeeper Mauro Goicoechea has told reporters at his first press conference that he has not joined the club to sit on the bench.
The 24-year-old joined from Uruguayan outfit Danubio and will be behind Maarten Stekelenburg in the Giallorossi’s pecking order.
“I am grateful at being given this chance by Roma,” he said. “This is a great club and I am here to grow and improve and my ambition is to hold the number one jersey in time.”
The new boy also revealed his reasons for choosing the number 13 jersey and who his goalkeeping hero is.
He said: “I chose 13 because it is the birthday of my wife and daughter and for me the best goalkeeper in the world is Gigi Buffon and for me he is a role model to follow.”
