Fiorentina are interested in signing AZ Alkmaar’s Jozy Altidore in January, as they look to strengthen their attack.

The 23 year old hit man has been in terrific form so far this season, and has netted 11 goals in 12 appearances.

This form has alerted several clubs throughout Europe, and Fiorentina would face competition from the likes of Sporting Lisbon for the American international’s signature.

However any deal would not come cheap, with AZ Alkmaar reportedly turning down a number of bids around €6 million in the summer.

Altidore started his career in America with New York Red Bulls, scoring 15 goals in 37 appearances, before  he moved to Spanish side Villarreal for around €10 million.

His time in Spain was a disaster, and he was shipped out on loan three times, to Xerex, Hull City, and then Bursaspor, only appearing nine times for Villarreal in three years, scoring once.

In the summer of 2011, Alkmaar announced they had agreed a deal to bring him to the club, for an undisclosed fee.

In Holland, his career has got back on track, with 30 goals in 62 appearances for Alkmaar, earning him a recall to the American national side.

With pace, and a ferocious right foot, he might be the ideal signing for Fiorentina, as they look to challenge for a top four spot.
