AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani believes Silvio Berlusconi’s presence at Milanello was decisive to the win over Juventus tonight.

The president showed up at the training ground to greet the players and they emerged with a 1-0 tonight thanks to a Robinho penalty.

“I am happy we are doing well once more as we did in the performances against Napoli and Anderlecht,” said Galliani. “We are very satisfied and I do believe that the presence of Berlusconi was decisive.

“It was a good game and the team played intensely and very well, I think qualifying for the next round of the Champions League gave us a boost.”

He also singled out captain for the night Riccardo Montolivo for special praise for his performance.

“Today there was a decision within the squad to give the armband to Montolivo and tonight he proved that he is a true captain,” said the CEO. “[Mattia] De Sciglio was also out of this world tonight.”

Even goalscorer Robinho came in for praise from Galliani who laughed off suggestions that he was on his way out of the club.

“His head is finally up again and this is very good. Of course he did not want to leave because he told that in Milan there is the sea and beautiful weather whereas in Brazil there is not!”
