Roma will have left the Stadio Olimpico and move into a new stadium by 2016, according to the club’s marketing director.

The Giallorossi, who currently share the Olimpico with city rivals Lazio on the outskirts of the Eternal City, are keen to invest in their own stadium.

Speaking at the International Football Summit in Cologne, marketing director Christoph Winterling said: “We will move fast and Roma will have a new stadium by 2016.”

Last year, the club managed to reach an agreement with city mayor Gianni Alemanno to ensure they could begin planning their new home.

It is believed the new ground will be located in the west of the city and will have a capacity of 55,000.

City mayor Alemanno has said that “it will be a stadium that will fill opponents with fear.”
