Palermo are hoping to sign a new defender in January and their hunt for that player has led them to Genoa’s Cesare Bovo who they want to sign for the third time.

Bovo has had two previous spells with the Sicilian side for a season in 2006/07 before rejoining in 2008 where he stayed for four years before leaving for the Grifoni.

The 29-year-old starred alongside Simon Kjaer and Ezequiel Munoz during his time at the Renzo Barbera and Gian Piero Gasperini’s side hope to bring him back once more, according to Calciomercato.

The Rosanero currently sit 17th in the Serie A table and hope to add to their defensive options in January in a bid to ensure they do not make the dreaded drop into Serie B.

Bovo’s current side Genoa are having an even worse time of it this campaign and sit two points behind Palermo.

Although Bovo enjoyed a good run in the side earlier in the season, Gigi Del Neri has substituted him twice and left him on the bench in the past four games.
