Wesley Sneijder’s wife took to Twitter on Friday to stand up for the troubled Inter midfielder.

With the club claiming he had missed the day’s training with a calf problem and undergone physiotherapy instead, Yolanthe Cabau announced to her followers ‘He’s not injured! Wesley is just fine’.

Sneijder’s dispute with Inter looks set to continue as the club wait for him to sign a new contract, insisting he will not play for them until he does so.

Sneijder himself was active on Twitter in midweek, breaking Inter’s ban on social media to announce his exclusion from the squad to face Neftci Baku in the Europa League, though he has not been selected to play for Inter since September as the dispute has rolled on, with Sneijder not even called upon despite Inter’s recent poor form in Serie A.

Sneijder’s unwillingness to pen a new contract has led to increasing press speculation that he is determined to leave Inter in the January transfer window, but Yolanthe went on to add ‘believe me, that’s not the problem’ and to reassure fans that Sneijder ‘loves Inter’, suggesting that her husband, captain of the Dutch national team, has no intentions of walking out on his club, though previous suitors have famously included the likes of Manchester United.
