Nicola PozziIt has been confirmed that Nicola Pozzi has joined the Tuscan side Siena on-loan until the end of the season from Sampdoria.

The ex Empoli man has signed for Giuseppe Iacchini’s side, due to Pozzi’s lack of playing time at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the signing of Maxi Lopez, which has seen Pozzi sidelined.

The 26-year-old has only played six games this season for the Bluerchiati, and will be looking to get back to his best with a spell away from Sampdoria.

But could this mean the end for Pozzi and Sampdoria’s relationship with each other or is his just a break for the former Italy Under-21 international.

“I thought it was fair to write down what I felt inside,” said Pozzi in an open letter on the Blucerchiati website.

“After a confrontation with the club, seeing the explosion on to the scene of Maurito (Icardi) and the return of Maxi Lopez, it became clear I would probably be on the sidelines of the squad in the second half of the season.

“We therefore decided together that the best solution was to go somewhere I could play more consistently.

“I will begin again from Siena with humility for a great challenge. I cannot hide that I never thought I’d leave so many people that I cared about, including the fans who showed me great affection, after so many years in which I turned down offers.

“I am equally happy to have taken part in the Champions League with Sampdoria, proud to have gone into Serie B with heads held high and to have stayed in Serie B to bring the club home. You are and always will be in my heart.”

Siena will be hoping Pozzi will be on target as they look to climb out of the relegation zone and continue to fight to stay in the Serie A.

Class act. Thank you Nicola, a true blucerchiato. Best of luck to you, Beppe Iachini (to whom we Samp tifosi also owe a debt of gratitude), and Siena – but not this weekend.

Also must point out that the above foto is of Brazilian Citadin Eder, not Italian Nicola Pozzi.

Ahh! Problem rectified. That’s Nicola Pozzi.
    Nice work people.
    Keep the Samp articles coming.
They are, after all, the ultimate protagonists of Serie A.
