Franco Brienza has claimed former Palermo general director Pierto Lo Monaco forced him to leave the club.

The 33-year-old left Sicily to join Atalanta in the January transfer window, despite only arriving at the Stadio Barbera in the summer.

“Igor Budan and Luigi Giorgi say the same thing, that Lo Monaco chopped the heads off all Perinetti’s ‘men’,” Brienza told the press.

“Igor was very close to president Maurizio Zamparini, while Giorgi and I were close to Perinetti. Therefore we didn’t fit into the project anymore.

“Lo Monaco said I asked to be sold? It’s too easy to put it that way. He moved everything so he could force me and others to leave.

“We had already been in talks with Atalanta for several days, but then director Pierpaolo Marino did well to take advantage of the chaos at Palermo.

“I was convinced to come here by Atalanta’s history and the belief of Stefano Colantuono and Marino.”

Lo Monaco has since left Palermo, only to be replaced by predecessor Giorgio Perinetti.
