Sampdoria coach Delio Rossi has been handed a two match ban after the vulgar hand gesture he displayed during his clubs’ match against Roma on Sunday.

The coach was also handed a fine by Sampdoria which he will donate to charity.

Rossi was caught showing the middle finger to Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso at the end of their match on Sunday. Sampdoria went on to win the match by a score of 3-1.

“I’m sorry for the gesture because as I’ve always said, I have always been respectful and I always demand respect,” he stated on the club’s website.

“I will gladly accept the fine handed down to me by the club for my role and I will give it the Giannina Gaslini Children’s hospital.”

This is not the first time Rossi has garnered attention for unsavoury behaviour. He was involved in a touchline brawl with Adem Ljajic while coaching Fiorentina last season, resulting in his sacking.
