Hellas Verona’s approach for Mangia fails

Serie B outfit have failed in an attempt to make , the current Italian under-21 manager, their new coach.

Reports surfaced on Monday that the Gialloblu had made an approach for Mangia; although it would appear that they have failed to tempt the ex-Palermo manager to the Verona bench.

Sunday night’s defeat, at Novara, has made the future of the club’s current manager, Andrea Mandorlini, quite precarious; and the team now appear to be looking for a successor.

Verona haven’t won any of their last three matches; a run which includes a home defeat to relegation threatened Vicenza.

Mangia succeeded Ciro Ferrara, as Italy’s under-21 manager, last year.

During this reign he has guided the Azzurrini to  the  2013 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship’s, in Israel, as winners of group 7, with 19 points.

Despite the Gialloblu’s recent drop in form, Verona lie in third position in Serie B and are only four points off in the automatic promotion places.

About the Author

- There was always an Italian presence in the home during my childhood, as my parents often lodged out the spare-room to Italian students. Already a child with a keen interest in football, the obsession with calcio that came along with these visitors seemed only natural. Thankfully, I outgrew a Parma jersey I received as a gift from one such student, and traded it for a Roma shirt. The lure of Zeman's gladiator's was irresistible, as was the technique of the young maestro Francesco Totti. 15 years on, and although Totti has gone from young prodigy to legend, Zeman is back and I'm still waving the red and yellow flag.
