AC Milan January signing Bartosz Salamon has pointed to club legend Alessandro Nesta as a source of inspiration in his football career.

The 21 year-old Pole was presented to the press Friday afternoon after joining the Rossoneri on deadline day from Serie B side Brescia.

“I’ve been inspired by Nesta, a player who I have always liked,” he said. “However, don’t say that I’m similar to him…

“I was a midfielder at the start of my career, but in the last two years I have improved defensively and that’s why I have become a defender.

“I don’t really have an idol. I used to look closely at midfielders, but now I watch defenders.”

Salamon has conceded that he was taken by surprise by his eleventh hour move to Milan.

“On the evening of January 30, I thought I’d be staying at Brescia,” the youngster stated. “The day after I got a call where I was told to head for Milan’s HQ to sign. It all happened very quickly.”

Nesta departed the San Siro following last season after 10 years with the club, signing with the Montreal Impact of North America’s Major League Soccer.
