Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has rejected Inter’s offer of a free transfer in favor of retirement.

Searching for a replacement for striker Diego Milito, the Nerazzurri offered a contract to the former Real Madrid man, but it is said he favors retirement at this stage of his career.

According to reports in Corriere dello Sport, Van Nistelrooy was not interested in the potential transfer to Inter.

The report also indicated that Inter will now turn their attention to free agent John Carew, who looks likely to be the next signing at the Milanese club.

The Norwegian has arrived in the city today to discuss a deal.

Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a career playing in the Netherlands, England, Spain and Germany with a record of 347 goals in 589 appearances.
