AC Milan hoping to prevent Atletico Madrid swooping for veteran
AC Milan have opened talks about trying to keep goalkeeper Christian Abbiati at the club with Atletico Madrid interested.
The 36-year-old is out of contract this summer and the Rossoneri do want to keep him at San Siro although he does have offers from both Italian clubs and sides abroad.
According to TMW, one the club who are hoping to take him away from the Diavolo is the Vicente Calderon club where he spent a season on loan in 2007.
In recent weeks though the situation has gotten no closer to reaching a conclusion the club had hoped for and it seems that he could end up departing at his contract’s end.
Roma are also monitoring the situation with the club obviously having goalkeeping difficulties this season with both Maarten Stekelenburg and Mauro Goicoechea.
Atletico though are the favourites to sign him and have submitted a proposal to Abbiati as they need to bring in a new net-minder with Thibaut Courtois leaving for Chelsea at the end of the campaign.
