Goalkeeper in no hurry to leave Roma
Maarten Stekelenburg has confirmed he wants to remain at Roma following a lengthy run in the starting eleven.
Under previous coach Zdenek Zeman the Dutch international lost his place to Mauro Goicoechea and a move away from the Stadio Olimpico was a real possibility.
Stekelenburg was all set for a January move to English club Fulham, but a deadline day switch never materialised.
However the appointment of Aurelio Andreazzoli has seen the former Ajax shot stopper regain the number one jersey – much to the relief of Stekelenburg.
“There is no reason to leave,” the 30-year-old noted. “I knew that I could do well and I know how football works.
“It was a very difficult period for me, but the new coach has faith in my abilities.”
