Inter and Lazio linked with Swiss international

and have been linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder .

The Swiss international has found playing time hard to come by in Germany, and this has increased speculation that the 20 year old could be heading for Italy in either a loan or permanent deal.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Lazio, who are on a poor run of 3 defeats in the last 5 games, have long been an admirer of the player and consequently appear to be the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature.

While the Biancocelesti lead the race there has also been interest from Inter, West Ham United, , and Xhaka’s former club FC Basel.

Having only left Basel to join Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2012, if Xhaka is to leave Germany it is thought that a return to his homeland is not his preferred option.

That would make a move to the an increasingly likely destination if the estimated price tag of €9 million can be met for the player who is contracted to the German club until June 2017.

- Football Italia on C4 with the broadcasting giant that is James Richardson first whetted my appetite for Calcio. Since then, and after numerous visits around Italy to take in games, a passion has been stoked which manifests itself in writing about, contemplating, and analysing football from the perspective that it is the most beautiful of sciences which mirrors society and represents different cultures in a subtle yet distinctive way. Currently writing a book which delves into the issue of why so few English footballers choose to play abroad, and am also in the process of setting a blog- www.politicsfootballother.wordpress.com.
