Juventus’ Buffon Calms Scudetto Talk
Gianluigi Buffon has quelled talk in the press that Juventus are already champions of Italy, insisting that until the Scudetto is mathematically secured, he will not assume his club will win it.
With Juventus having beaten Bologna at the weekend, it takes them closer to the crown, but Buffon was keeping his feet resolutely on the ground, assuring Bianconeri fans that the players would not party until the job was complete.
Buffon was speaking to Sky Sports after Juventus’ latest victory, and was also asked about Bayern Munich, against whom he will find himself playing in the quarter finals of the Champions League. He was calm about the prospect, staying that “the game will be played, and we will play as well as we can, and the way best suited to us”.
He admitted, however, that, “we have a great team in front of us” in Bayern, but “the fact we have got to this point is a already a great achievement”.
The 35-year-old is aiming for his sixth Scudetto with Juventus, who are sweeping all before them domestically, sitting nine points clear of Napoli currently. He has, though, only ever finished runner-up in the Champions League, one of few trophies that have eluded him during his career.
