Juventus’ Giovinco shuts down Facebook account
Juventus striker Sebastian Giovinco has apparently opted to close his Facebook account after becoming frustrated with abuse from fans.
Despite being tied with fellow forwards Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella as the club’s top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions, the Italian international has often been singled out by sections of the Bianconeri supporters due to his perceived profligacy in front of goal.
The 26-year-old attacker began his youth career with Juventus, where he began his professional career in 2006 before being loaned out to Empoli and Parma, who opted to buy out half of his contract for €3 million during the 2011-2012 season.
His 15 goals and 11 assists for Parma were enough to earn him a return back to his former club, who re-signed him for €11 million in 2012 and he found himself competing for a position in the starting XI with fellow strikers Vucinic, Quagliarella, and Alessandro Matri.
Since re-signing for Juventus, he has netted 11 times, including his first Champions League goal against Danish side Nordsjælland and another against reigning champions Chelsea.
Yet, despite this, some fans believe that he often fails to score at critical moments, and hence have taken to the social media platform to express their discontent.

It’s disgusting that idiots abuse the fact that with Twitter and Facebook, fans can actually interact with their heroes. These so called fans are a disgrace.

How awful. It’s one thing to engage in debate and healthy criticism, it’s another to be a bully and hide behind your computer to hurl abuse. So pathetic.
Giovinco having a FB account is merely a way for him to interact with these so called “fans” on a casual level, to help erase the gap between athletes and supporters. He’s not obligated to do so, and this is how people treat him? Amazing.
People disgust me sometimes.
I completely understand the fans frustration, because I’m one of those fans who thinks giovinco has so far been our worst player this season and he doesn’t deserve to be a starter ahead of matri or quag, but abusing him won’t help the cause and i’m completely disgusted by some fans doing this
I am a big fan of Ac Milan and Italian football … but since i have been following football i have realised that Italy has the most disgusting fans in through out Europe.
