Juventus sign Flamengo prospect
Juventus have completed the signing of Brazilian youngster Mattheus from Flamengo on a five year contract for a reported €2 million.
The teenage trequarista is the son of World Cup winner Bebeto, who celebrated the birth of his son at the 1994 World Cup with his famous “baby rocking” celebration in his side’s 2-0 win over Holland in the quarterfinals.
According to Brazilian outfit Extra, Mattheus’s contract with the Rubro-Negro was set to expire in December and rather than lose the player on a free transfer, agreed to sell him to Juventus.
Mattheus is known in Brazil as an attacking midfielder who loves to spearhead the attack, and possesses pace coupled with excellent technical skills.
The 18-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Rio de Janeiro outfit and has yet to score for the senior side. He also has four caps for the Brazil Under-20 national team that failed to qualify for this year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup, set to be held this upcoming September.
