Roma defeated Parma 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night in Serie A.

A first half goal from Erik Lamela and a second half free kick from Francesco Totti handed the home side all three points.

Roma got off to a almost perfect start as they found themselves one goal to the good inside ten minutes thanks to Lamela. After Leandro Castan headed out to Daniele De Rossi, the midfielder rifled his effort across goal finding both Alessandro Florenzi and Lamela waiting as the Argentine tapped home.

The Giallorossi could have extended their lead as Simone Perrotta found himself in acres of space inside the area only to hammer his effort off the crossbar.

The home side continued to impress as Lamela drew out the best of Antonio Mirante, but the Parma stopper made a good save with his legs and then got up quickly to deny Perrotta to keep the deficit at one heading into the break.

Immediately after the interval, Rome had another chances to pull further away from Parma. Francesco Totti curled a excellent free kick past the Crociati wall, off the inside the right hand post and back across the goal-line.

Roberto Donadoni’s men had a very promising spell and on two occasions went very close to drawing level. Firstly Gabriel Paletta rocketed a header off the Roma crossbar and then Marco Parolo had a goal bound shot denied by heroic defending from Nicolas Burdisso. However hard the away side tried they could not find an equaliser.

The Giallorossi held out during the intense pressure from Parma and responded in a perfect way, through a goal of their own. Roma were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area after Jaime Valdes brought down Francesco Totti and the Roma captain stepped up to dispatch the set piece in a thunderous manner.

Totti could have notched up his second of the evening as Roma quickly broke, but this time Mirante matched his effort with an impressive save keeping the lead at two.

Roma held out to secure an important win.
