Zapata eyeing second place with AC Milan

defender is encouraging his teammates to focus on finishing second in the league to guarantee Champions League football next season.

Milan’s run in the Champions League ended after a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona Tuesday evening at the Camp Nou, but the 26-year-old Colombian international believes that his team must move on and concentrate on continuing to climb the league table.

“we did well at San Siro against Barcelona, it is just a shame that we were not able to do what we wanted at the Camp Nou,” he stated to Milan Channel.

The Rossoneri are still enjoying an undefeated start to the league since the beginning of the new year, and as a result have risen to third in the table, only two points behind Napoli.

They return to league action at home this Sunday against Palermo, a team whose dismal record leaves them at the bottom of the table with relegation a possible outcome at the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Zapata urged his teammates not to take their opponents lightly.

“We have a tough game on Sunday against Palermo as we know that we have to do well because we want to finish second in the league.

“The Rosanero will be hard to break down and will play on the counter-attack.”

I'm a huge fan of Milan as well as the Italian and Ghanaian NT's (where my family hails from). You can find me talking about the beautiful game with everyone from friends, family, random strangers--the hairdresser, the pizza guy, anyone willing to listen. So, after years of putting up with me constantly running my mouth, some buddies suggested I put my thoughts down on paper, and I started writing last year for fun in my spare time.

2nd place is possible. Napoli have really hit a rough patch and Milan can definitely capitalize on that with a win Sunday, plus will really help their confidence following that huge defeat to Barca earlier this week.
Still, Palermo will definitely park the bus because for them at this point, a draw obviously than a loss if they have no chance of winning at all. Milan can’t afford to drop points here and there with silly draws, so they will need to bring their best game against a team that’s desperate to remain in Serie A.
