Arsenal are preparing a surprise bid for Lazio goalkeeper and Azzurri ace Federico Marchetti during the summer transfer window.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to add depth to this position and has had minor troubles with their Polish number one Wojciech Szczesny’s father throughout this season for playing him while he was injured.

As a result, he is looking for other options in between the sticks which has led him to Marchetti according to Sky Italia.

The Biancocelesti netminder has been one of the best in Serie A this season, making 37 starts in all competitions this campaign.

The 30-year-old is remembered by some for his poor World Cup display in 2010 but has bounced back to become one of the peninsula’s best and helped the Aquile into the quarter-finals of the Europa League as well as the Coppa Italia.

It is thought though that this will be a very difficult deal for Arsenal to pull off as Lazio have no intention of selling one of their star performers.
