Last season Mauricio Isla experienced a breakout season for Udinese, prompting several clubs around Europe pursue his signature.

In the end, Isla joined reigning Serie A champions Juventus on a co-ownership deal, but has had difficulty making an impact this season.

Depsite playing only eight times for the Bianconeri in Serie A since his move, former coach Pasquale Marino has leapt to the midfielder’s defence.

“However, if Isla remained and if he had a good preseason then I am convinced that he will return to the player who we all recognise.

“Isla is an excellent player and you don’t just forget how to play football.”

Isla has featured in three of Juventus’ last four matches, though he experienced more time as an unused sub prior his recent run of fixtures.

The Chilean is recovering from a knee injury sustained last season while still with Udinese. Marino believes this is one reason for Isla’s indifferent season in 2012/13.

“He had a bad injury and it is normal that it would take some time to recover your condition,” Marino explained to TMW.

“But you also need to play with continuity to do that and that is not possible in a side like Juventus who have been constructed to win.”
