Rafa BenitezIt has been reported that Rafael Benitez is on the verge of announcing a deal to become Napoli coach.

The Spaniard, who will leave his post as interim Chelsea manager in the summer, has been targeted by the Azzurri after current coach Walter Mazzarri announced his intention to leave the club after four seasons in charge.

The Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport have reported that Benitez’s agent Garcia Manuel Quillon met with Italian officials at the Rome HQ of FilmAuro, the movie production company owned by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

It is thought that a two-year contract in the region of €3.5m a season has been agreed.

Benitez will go to the Stadio San Paolo outfit having already had a brief taste of Serie A after a six month spell at Inter.

The former Valencia and Liverpool manager succeeded Jose Mourinho in summer 2010 but was replaced by Leonardo on Christmas Eve despite winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 53-year-old guided Chelsea to third position in the English Premier League this season and won the Europa League beating Benfica 2-1 in the final.
