Giaccherini - SunderlandEmanuele Giaccherini’s agent believes the Italian has increased his chances of featuring for the Azzurri at next years World Cup after his move from Juventus to Sunderland.

The Black Cats completed the signing of the 28-year-old earlier last week for a fee of €7.5 million and his agent revealed that the deal was completed in a short period of time.

“The transfer happened out of the blue,” Furio Valcareggi told TuttoMercatoWeb.com.

“Juventus did not want to sell him but a serious offer arrived and Juve offered us this possibility. We thought about it and accepted, but all we needed to say was no and Juventus would have kept him as he had normal wages and played very well.

“This offer for Giaccherini was the only concrete one at an economic level and this situation opened the transfer window as [Angelo] Ogbonna then arrived.

“There was more competition at Juventus, while Sunderland are a top option and we hope he can keep his spot in the national team.

“A risk because of the World Cup? I see it differently. He will be a starter at Sunderland and the Premier League has a lot of visibility and Prandelli will monitor him.

“If he plays at his usual levels there will be no problems. The problems would have been at Juve where he would have only played a bit.”
