Kevin ConstantDamiano Tommasi, the president of AIC (Italian Footballers Association) has criticised AC Milan’s Kevin Constant for storming off the pitch in protest og racial abuse during the Trofeo Tim.

Tommasi insisted that Constant’s actions were mistaken and that he should have acted in accordance with the AIC’s protocol.

“I spoke to Constant and showed him I have solidarity with him but I also reminded him that there is a code of conduct that has to be respected,” Tommasi told reporters after his visit to Milanello.

The incident in Reggio Emilia was similar to that involving Milan teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng, who kicked the ball at fans and left the pitch following racial abuse during a friendly against Pro Patria.

However, according to the AIC, Constant’s actions were less than appropriate as Constant walked off after hearing the first racial insult rather than following the regulations which state that warnings must first be issued by the referee to the crowd.

Despite criticising Constant’s actions, Tommasi did condemn all forms of racism in football.

“I’m sorry that in 2013 we still have to talk about these problems that should have already been overcome.”
