Pizarro - Fiorentina midfielder looks set to stay with the Florence based side after he retracted his transfer request and apologised to Viola fans for his actions at the end of last season.

Speaking at the Viola pre-season training base in Moena the 33-year-old indicated that his initial wish to leave Florence was their disappointing finish to the season and some controversial refereeing decisions helped deny they a place.

The Chile international insisted that the club will challenge for trophies next season, ‘unless something else happens’.

“I had a heeling moment at the end of the season, as it was over, but Florence and Fiorentina were always in my thoughts.” Pizarro told Tuttomercatoweb.

“It was very bad it finished [like it did] for the season.

“I’m sorry about what happened, but I’m not going away.

“What went wrong at the end of the season? Nothing, and just that like all the fans I was upset by what happened. I was very disappointed.

“We’ll challenge for trophies, unless something else happens.”

Kevin Pogorzelski

- My interest in Italian football began with the broadcasting of Football Italia in the early 90's, turning to infatuation with the Champions League victories of AC Milan, Paolo Maldini an all-time hero, and Juventus in 1994 and 1996. With no allegiance to any Italian side in particuar I have a strange fascination with Genoa since witnessing them beat my beloved Liverpool in the 1992 UEFA Cup. The last two decades following the reds have strangely seen frequent contests against Italian opposition. Also writing for thefootballmagazine.com, you can follow me on Twitter: @rabbitrabbiton
