ZarateMauro Zarate has taken to Twitter to announce that his contract with Lazio has finally been terminated.

The forward has been in a contract dispute with the Biancocelesti for quite some time now, and although the arbitration panel handling his case against the team haven’t come to a final decision yet, the Argentine is still saying his goodbyes.

Zarate expressed his happiness on Tuesday night through his official Twitter account and thanked the Italian side’s fans for supporting him.

“From now on I’m free, finally I can go and play elsewhere,” he wrote.

“Now I am happy again.

“I thank the fans for three very beautiful years in Rome. I have always given my all to the Lazio shirt.”

Reports have linked the 26-year-old to Premier League side Sunderland, as well as former club Velez Sarsfield.

Mauro Zarate first joined Lazio on loan from Al-Sadd for the 2008-09 season, after which he signed a permanent deal with the club. The player then spent the 2011-12 campaign on loan with Inter, where he failed to fully impress.

He only made one league appearance for the Aquilotti this past term, due to injury and his problems with the club.
