Luca Toni VeronaLuca Toni has chosen to outline his reasons for joining newly promoted Serie A side Hellas Verona for the 2013-2014 season.

The 36-year-old veteran attacker has played for a plethora of Serie A sides including Juventus, Genoa, Roma, and most recently, Fiorentina, where he spent two spells in the Viola jersey before leaving on a free transfer earlier this summer.

“I chose Verona because I feel that I can help this team,” he stated to Sky Sport Italia.

“In terms of whether I’d return to Fiorentina in a director capacity, I’m not really thinking about that right now, as I’m just focused on my playing career.”

Toni also reflected on his former club’s signings and was quick to praise the Viola’s leadership for making some good acquisitions in this summer’s transfer market, as well as point out differences between him and their latest marquee signing.

“[Mario] Gomez and I are different kinds of strikers. I’m more of a fox in the box kind of player while he’s more of a free-roaming attacker.

“Overall, I’m impressed with Fiorentina, they have made some great acquisitions so far this summer.”
