Davide Santon InterChelsea manager Jose Mourinho has talked about how he oversaw the development of a number of youngsters as they grew into top players.

Mourinho fondly remembered Davide Santon from his time at Inter and said that he had the potential to be a world-class player if it had not been for unfortunate injuries.

“Whenever I find someone who has everything to become a top player and stay in the first team I’ve never held back in giving them a chance,” said Mourinho according to FCInterNews.it.

The Chelsea boss sounded regretful when speaking about his struggles to blood young players during his time at Inter and the bad luck that saw Davide Santon’s career not live up to expectation.

“Maybe in Italy they don’t know what is best.

“I’m talking about Davide Santon who is now at Newcastle.

“Santon has suffered two great misfortunes.

“However, at 17-years-old everybody was saying that he would become for Inter what Paolo Maldini was for AC Milan.”
