Mario Gomez FiorentinaMario Gomez expressed his delight at joining Fiorentina from German champions Bayern Munich at his unveiling Monday in Italy.

The German international, who celebrated his 28th birthday last week, was unveiled to a large crowd Monday evening after he met with Fiorentina owner Andrea Della Valle and manager Vincenzo Montella to officially sign his contract with the club.

“This is a day to remember for me. I am delighted to be here in Florence. It ‘a beautiful day,” Gomez told violachannel.tv, the club’s official channel.

The striker, who joined Fiorentina for a reported fee of  €16 million, could surpass Nuno Gomes as the club’s most expensive signing with various add on clauses potentially raising the fee as to as high as €20 million.

With the club expected to lose Stevan Jovetic this summer, the signing is seen as a statement of intent by the Viola, who will hope Gomez can lead the line along with Giuseppe Rossi and Adem Ljajic this coming season and secure the Champions league football they narrowly missed out on last campaign.

Gomez netted a 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern Munich in addition to 25 in 58 caps for Germany.
