Gonzalo Bergessio - CataniaSouthampton’s scouts have returned to Italy once more to identify targets and they like what they have witnessed from Catania frontman Gonzalo Bergessio.

Although the Saints have been linked mostly with a move for Roma’s Pablo Osvaldo for their forward line this summer, they are now looking at the possibility of bringing in the Argentine.

TMW report that manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on his compatriot and has been very impressed with his record of grabbing goals in key games.

He is believed to be a definite target for the Premier League outfit although club president Antonino Pulvirenti has insisted that the 28-year-old is not for sale.

It is not just Southampton who are eyeing the player though as Spanish side Atletico Madrid are looking at him as they aim to find the goals to replace Radamel Falcao, having already brought in David Villa.
