AC Milan captain: El Shaarawy has never lost his smile
Il Faraone was majestic for the Rossoneri in the first half of the 2012/13 season, effectively carrying the Milan side on his young shoulders with 14 goals, but the arrival of Mario Balotelli coincided with a dip in form after January for which he was widely criticised.
Speaking to SkySport 24 at Milan’s Malpensa airport after his side’s 1-1 Champions League playoff draw with PSV Eindhoven, Italian international Montolivo gave his thoughts on the tie, and insisted that his 20-year-old colleague was in good spirits.
“We knew that we would have suffered from the intensity, they were ahead of us in terms of physical condition,” he said.
Then the Italian was asked about his teammate’s drop in form.
“El Shaarawy? He has never lost his smile,” he concluded.
Italo-Egyptian El Shaarawy moved to the Stadio San Siro from Genoa in 2011 and so far has 24 goals in 75 appearances for the Milanese giants.
