Fiorentina coach wary as Viola prepare for Grasshopper clash
The first leg will take place in Zurich before next week’s return leg at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on August 29.
Montella believes Fiorentina will have to play well in order to get through the tie, something they haven’t done in losses to Villarreal and Sporting Lisbon this preseason.
“We have made mistakes in interpreting those matches and I did not like the squad,” he stated at the pre-match press conference.
“A great Fiorentina will be needed against Grasshopper who are a very compact squad.”
“Mario’s worth is well known. He must still give his best and the squad must still get to know him. I think that he can do much more and will only continue to grow with the team.”
“Pepito? He is not at his best but he is highly motivated.
With rumours continuing to swirl about the future of forward Adem Ljajic, Montella admitted that the news has affected the Serbian.
“I think he has been relaxed but he is young. It’s possible he is being affected by the situation.”
“Goalkeeper? You will see tomorrow who will play between Neto and [Gustavo] Munua.”
