Fomer Inter defender unable to make peace with Benitez
After a troubled relationship during their time at Inter Marco Materazzi has once again reopened his feud with Napoli coach Rafael Benitez despite praising the Spaniard for the start he has made in Naples.
The 40-year-old insisted that he wished Benitez and his side good luck this season, but seemed unable to let go of the former Nerazzurri coach’s previous claim that he lied about pictures of Jose Mourinho being removed from the training ground.
“From what I see, he has had good results in Naples, and provided a new mentality,” Materazzi told Sky Sports Italia.
“Along with results there must also be a level of understanding with the players in order to be true to them.
“He says that I am a liar, but the facts are under the eyes of everyone to see. I am not here to open a controversy, it would not make sense.
“He says that everyone knows who I am, I say that I know who he is.
“I congratulate him, the hope of winning the Scudetto, because this year he has the team to do it in a city with an enthusiasm that can bring you great results.
“I wish him a good luck, especially for Naples and the Neapolitans.”
