Former AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini has re-signed with Arsenal, the club has confirmed.
The Rossoneri had offered the 29-year-old a new deal, but could not come to an agreement regarding his wages, so the Marseille-born player opted to return to the Emirates Stadium and link-up again with former manager Arsene Wenger ahead of the upcoming season.
Flamini put pen to paper on a three-year deal that will earn him about €2.3 million per season, which makes him the second signing for the Gunners this summer.
“We’re very pleased Mathieu has agreed to re-join us,” Wenger is reported to have told the official club website. “He is a player of real quality, with a fantastic work rate and great mentality.
“As we know, Mathieu is a strong midfielder, but is also is comfortable playing in defence too. He is a very good addition to our squad.”
Flamini previously played for Arsenal for four years between 2004 and 2008, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and a Champions League runner’s up medal before moving on to Milan in 2008.
However, he spent long spells on the sidelines due to injuries that saw him miss the the majority 2011-2012 season, and in total made less than 100 appearance for the Rossoneri during his five seasons at the San Siro.
The former French international, who made a handful of appearances for his national side between 2007 and 2008, began his professional career with Marseille before moving on to Arsenal in 2004.
