Galliani: AC Milan concede defeat in Honda chase
AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has revealed that the Rossoneri will not be signing Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda this summer while hinting that the club may be done in terms of new signings.
Galliani has been negotiating with CSKA Moscow for a while now over the possibility of signing Honda this summer before the player becomes available on a free transfer in January.
However, the Russian side have remained firm on their unwillingness to sell one of their star players.
“Has Honda almost vanished? I think so, with the last telephone call,” Galliani said.
“The CSKA president has told me that he won’t sell. Therefore we will stay as we are. There are not a lot of transfer gifts out there for boss Massimiliano Allegri.”
Galliani also confirmed that M’baye Niang will not be leaving this summer, despite loan interest from Genoa.
“Niang will be staying with us, that is for certain. He also scored a really good goal against LA Galaxy.”
Niang’s goal helped Milan beat La Galaxy 2-0 and claim third spot in the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament.
“We played well and we took a really good third place. The team was well organised and played the ball around well.
“Serie A? Milan competed with everyone in the second half of the season last year and the team can be competitive again.”
