Guidolin demands focus ahead of Lazio clash
The Zebrette suffered a surprise 3-1 reversal versus Czech outfit Slovan Liberec in the first leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday, and despite still reeling from the loss, Guidolin has encouraged his side to refocus and ensure they get a positive result against the Biancocelesti at the Stadio Olympico.
“Our goal is to notch [at least] 40 points [in the league] this season, so we must fight to ensure we get maximum points from each match,” the 57-year-old stated in a press conference.
“There are three points up for grabs tomorrow and it’s always been a tough match-up versus Lazio. In fact, probably our worst performance in the past few years was last season in Rome.
“They always put us under a lot of pressure, but it’s essential that we stay calm and focused, not resort to desperation or a frenzied approach if we want to succeed.”
Despite the disappointing result in the Europa League, Guidolin feels that his side has already moved on and are solely focused on their upcoming clash with Lazio, as well as addressed the injury concerns regarding key players Antonio Di Natale and Luis Muriel.
“We’re only focused on Lazio, and after the game we can turn our attentions back to how to overcome the deficit versus Slovan Liberec. [As for Di Natale and Muriel], both will be in Rome with the team, but I haven’t decided whether they’ll feature yet.”
