Hamsik: Important to have won against Chievo
Despite two excellent goals from young striker Andrea Paloschi giving hope to the home side, the Partenopei ran out eventual winners at a stadium where they hadn’t won in Serie A since 2010.
“I’m not saying that I thought we’d win, however we did believe in ourselves,” he told SkySport Italia.
“We knew we could come out on top, that if we had scored when the match was level at 2-2 without conceding again we would have had a good chance.
“It’s important to have won here, as it’s a place where we always have difficulties, we’ve succeeded in taking a very important result home with us.”
Hamsik has gotten off to a flying start in Serie A, scoring four goals in his first two games at the beginning of the new season for the Vesuviani, but he attributed this to being played in a more advanced position.
“My best ever start to a season? It could just depend on the position I’m playing in. I’m happy because I’m scoring and giving my contribution to the team,” he continued.
“I dedicate the goals to my family.”
New signing Higuain got his first goal for the Azzurri on Saturday night, giving an all action performance, and Hamsik believes it was important for the Argentine to open his account for his new side.
“Higuain? It’s important that he got off the mark because he’s only just arrived.”
Napoli’s next match is on September 15 when they will host Atalanta in hopes of continuing their positive start to the 2013/14 season.
